|
The Portuguese text was
translated by friar João Álvares, Abade Comendador do
Mosteiro Beneditino de Paço de Sousa, to transmit some teachings to the monks
of the monastery, in order to maintain intact the monastic discipline and
detachment from the world (as in a letter accompanying the work, that is sent
by the Abbot, absent in Bruges in 1468, to the monks of his monastery).

|
The Portuguese version coincides in its general, with the Latin text,
although there is a change in the title of the chapters: instead of the
translation of the original titles, the translator prefers to precede the
chapters of Latin phrases. There are also some words of additions
(interjections, pleonasm, use synonyms to reinforce a thought) and deletions
(Cepeda 1962: 5-8).

Tibães.

The manuscript with number cota Aze. 18 is on parchment and written in
French Gothic letter (18 x 13 cm). The text is written in one column and has
about 30 lines.
